Media and entertainment companies are managing vast libraries of rich media that are becoming increasingly capacity intensive as higher resolution and longer play times enter the mix, including high-definition (HD) video. Until now, media companies and other providers of Internet Video have been limited at the Origin level to either traditional enterprise storage products originally designed for transaction processing or internally developed “Cheap and Deep” storage solutions that will not adapt to future changes in distribution strategy. Both approaches require extensive and costly infrastructure to store Internet Video and are not optimized to easily and efficiently ingest and store rich media content.

And if an evolving distribution strategy eventually requires the flexibility to deliver some of their long-tail content without disrupting existing distribution channels, the 8120 Origin can be upgraded to the 8150 Distribution system without refreshing – and re-purchasing – the entire storage and distribution infrastructure.
